I am directing this question primarily at non-profit technology assistance providers, but anyone should feel free to answer. I'd like to update my list of resources -- the NOSI CD is a good start but it is getting out of date. What are the Open Source Tools that you actually use in working non-profit settings? My list is roughly consistent whether I am working in Linux, Windows or OSX:*Word Processing:* OpenOffice.org, (and we are evaluating Neo Office) *Email:* Thunderbird*Web Browser:* Firefox*Chat:* Jabber /Gaim; Jabber /Adium*Graphics:* The GimpOther tools that I use, don't often ask organizers to use, but which I find enormously helpful:puTTY, SILCI don't want to get into content management systems and contact management databases here, because there are quite a few out there and I think that deciding between them takes significantly more discussion and evaluation. I also am not convinced that solutions that live on your computer are always the way to go. These also aren't strictly desktop tools, as most organizations we work with need to be able to coordinate and share these things. The big holes for me are graphics (if an organization is preparing photos for their website The GIMP is great. When I've tried to do anything really fancy, I find that I hit a wall.) and layout. MS Publisher is a poor, poor substitute for Quark or In Design, and I haven't seen anything that comes close in the Free/Libre world.
